I love this movie. Eugene is based on the lead singer of Gogol Bordello and the song they sing in the car, Trapped is my fave GB song.

For me, it was multiple actors, their dialogue getting smashed by bombastic music — sometimes important-sounding lines, too! I had the same problem with the Batman movies, though. It’s like they don’t trust the acting and writing on its own.

I think some of those sequences would have been more powerful with no music at all. But I expect I’m in the minority, there…like I said, though, my only real complaint. Loved the movie otherwise.

I had a hard time understanding about 1/3 of Ken Watanabe’s dialogue, even on the second showing. I’m looking forward to getting the DVD with the Subtitles option.

Still, LOVED this movie.

For some reason, I’ve continued watching The Gates and have liked episodes 3 and 4 better than the first two. I honestly don’t know why I’m still watching — I can’t point to a single character that truly intrigues me. (This also happened to me with V and Warehouse 13. Maybe I’m just starved for sf and fantasy TV.)

Good Guys and The Glades were both unwatchable for me.
